A Long Time Ago ... I became a Star Wars fan. My love for Star Wars was born when my father took me and my brother to see the original movie at the Regent Theatre in my home town, Great Yarmouth, in January 1978. I was 7 years-old. Needless to say, it made quite an impact on me. To celebrate The Force Awakens, I have created a 100-day countdown to its release. Using images from my collection, I will share my favorite memories of 35+ years of being a fan and collector of all things Star Wars.

27 days to go: The Early Bird gets the figures!
Some of you will probably know the story of the ‘Early Bird Certificate’ for the original Star Wars figures back in Christmas of 1977. Kenner toys had the license to produce the action figures and toys, but couldn’t produce them fast enough to get them in shops in time for the Christmas season. As a solution, it sold the legendary ‘Early Bird Certificate’ guaranteeing the holder the first four figures when they became available in spring of 78. This tactic wasn't deployed in the UK, but I managed to purchase an original Certificate on eBay many years later. Its iconic design has since been used on other Star Wars products and marks the birth of the Star Wars action figure line.
